Matisse vs. Picasso

The two artists famously met for the first time at one of Gertrude Stein's dinner parties. "Matisse was a cool, calm, Northern European artist. Picasso was a hot, temperamental Spaniard." From that time on, their lives and their artwork were effected by each other: Who was more prolific? who was initimated? who was faithful in their personal lives? were they friends? did they like each other's art? The relationship between the artists Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso is the subject of this lecture that will focus on the influences each artist had on the other's creations.
