Copy This: An Exploration of Printmaking

In a world filled with multiplied images, on computer screens, billboards, newspapers, it is hard to imagine a time when every image was unique.  Printmaking started around 1400 and with it, the ability to generate multiple images from one original image. Through art history, almost all of the “superstar” artists practiced printmaking: Picasso, Dali, Degas, Rembrant. There are several, however, who advanced the medium in significant ways: Albrecht Durer, Barbara Kruger, Andy Warhol. In this series, we will explore these artists’ printmaking as well as that of other artists. We will also study the various printmaking techniques including: woodcut, etching, engraving, lithography and more.
