Popular Culture

Ages 5-10, Students will learn about popular cultural events and make miniature sculptures, shadow boxes, and other 2D pieces of art (which may include painting, yarn painting, drawing, and printmaking). Inspiration for this class draws from Mardi Gras, Easter’s Marshmallow Peeps, Mexico’s Day of the Dead Celebration, and the Albuquerque Balloon Festival, among others. In some cases, students may learn about particular artists involved in the celebrations and their particular artistic techniques. Instructor: Hilary Christian.
